Well, today was Picture Day, so they were all dressed up (one kid had a suit and tie!). About twenty minutes of our time ended up being taken away because of that, but the rest of the time went well. I'm enjoying working with the kids and really learning their ins and outs. A success would probably just be a little moment with this boy Ashton, who is pretty calm and quiet. He was working with magnetic letters to spell whatever words he wanted, and tried to spell the word smack as "smac". After the initial surprise and laughing a bit from his word choice, I was kind of impressed because the other kids were doing three letter words and their names, that's it. I talked to him for a minute, and got him to figure out how to actually spell smack, and he got really excited that he had done it right. I gave him a high five for spelling such a big word, and then moved to the next kid while he rushed to make some other big word. It was just nice to see him getting really excited about something as simple as spelling a word.
