Well, it was definitely like a trip back in time. I kept seeing stuff that made me remember MY time in early elementary, and the first graders were definitely entertaining. The teacher basically gave me a walkthrough of how the classroom typically functions, and asked me for a rundown of Academy EDU. I saw her work with some kids in their reading groups, and I talked to a couple of them about their reading. I mainly just tried to get an idea of everybody's capabilities and quirks, and there was definitely a variety for me... I'm looking forward to working with these kids, especially the ones who basically remind me of myself. Tomorrow I can start taking pictures for evidence, the teacher needs to make sure there's nobody who can't have their picture taken. I guess an "aha" moment for me would be just a short moment when I was talking with a really quiet girl who was reading a short beginner's book and I started asking her questions about it. I was originally worried that I would feel uncomfortable working with first graders, but I actually found that I enjoyed talking through things with her and seeing what she could figure out.
